Order Of Grand Warrior Award
As a young woman from a pastoral community, Naisula stood no chance of influencing her community to end the destructive tradition that was claiming her age mates and possible future husbands for the young girls. The young girls sang heroic songs for the Morans as they prepared for raids and there was no place for women’s voices. Therefore she became among the forerunners of the peace caravan which helped in peace building among the Turkana, Samburu and Pokot communities through the Laikipia Peace Caravan. She was then awarded the Oder of Grand Warrior by the president of Kenya in 2011 in recognition of her efforts at peace-building.
One Young World Politician of the Year Award
One Young World announced the nineteen nominees who have been shortlisted for the inaugural One Young World Politician of the Year Awards. Naisula Leesuda was among the nominees. The winners are nominated based on the impact they are having in their home countries and how they have used their position to benefit young people specifically.
The purpose of this award is to highlight the work of those young politicians who are using their positions to make a difference and to encourage others who have not considered politics an appealing vocation to see it is one of the most impactful ways to create positive change.
Naisula Lesuuda, a member of the Kenyan National Assembly since 2017, previously served in the Senate from 2013 to 2017, when she was its youngest female member. She co-founded Peace Caravan, which worked with professionals from rural communities to help reduce cattle rustling and cross-border conflicts. Through her Naisula Foundation, she has been able to assist disadvantaged school students to pursue their academic and career dreams.
